Movie Review by The Alpha Craig

Don't make me ... hungry,

Favorite Movie Quote: "You wouldn't like me when I'm hungry."

This movie is clearly better than its predecessor. That much is obvious so I will spare the gratuitous comparisons. Instead I will go all fan-boy on this one. There were so many comic book and TV show things I spotted upon first viewing of this movie (yes I will be purchasing the DVD in order to pick it apart, bit by bit.)

The reference to Captain America was great, I won't tell you what it is but you'll need to pay attention to Tim Roth's dialog and later Robert Downey's dialog. The opening montage of scenes with Edward Norton sitting in the "gamma ray" chair and the shadowing his face with the green eyes during Norton's first transformation harkened back to the original TV series and the scene with him falling out of the helicopter before the final battle was reminiscent of the last scene in the made-for-TV "THE DEATH OF HULK." The cameos of Tim Blake Nelson as the scientist Samuel Sterns and Ty Burrell as psychiatrist Leonard Samson (who would later become the Leader and Doc Samson respectively) were awesome. The fight scenes were great with both Hulk vs. Emil Blonsky and Hulk vs. Abomination. The icing on the cake was seeing Tony Stark cameo (I'd say spoiler alert, but it got leaked to the internet ages ago.) I also dug the cameos of Stan Lee and Lou Ferrigno (who also voiced the Hulk) and the clip of "The Courtship of Eddies Father featuring the late Bill Bixby RIP.) I could go on, but there isn't enough time.

Edward Norton (PRIDE AND GLORY) as Bruce Banner / Hulk was good. He didn't overdo it; he just added the right amount. Some might have thought him to be egotistical for rewriting the script, but it translated into a good story and character development. Liv Tyler (THE STRANGERS) as Dr. Elizabeth "Betty" Ross was a huge improvement over Jennifer Connolly (and I used to have a huge crush on her so I was extremely forgiving to her bland and unemotional performance.) Tyler had a warmth and sense humor Connolly lacked. William Hurt (ENDGAME) as General Ross impressed me. He had huge army boots to fill from Sam Elliot's performance. He filled the boots and added to them. Tim Roth (FUNNY GAMES) as Emil Blonsky, Tim Blake Nelson (THE ASTRONAUGHT FARMER) as Dr. Samuel Sterns, Ty Burrell (THE DARWIN AWARDS) as Dr. Leonard Samson and Robert Downey, Jr. (TROPICAL THUNDER) as Tony Stark were great for the amount of time the had which I expected (I still expected Burrell to be the jerk he was in Dawn of the Dead, but happy that he played it seriously.)

The bottom line is I liked this movie, not quite to the level of Iron Man, but very closely.

I thought the reference was in relation to Iron Man??? Did I totally get that wrong?

It has been a long enough time to where I won't spoil anything. When General Ross is talking to Emil Blonsky he mentions the "Super Soldier" formula. That is what made Steve Rogers into Captain America. Later on Stark/Downy says "I heard you were trying to bring back that old secret weapon from the cold war" meaning the super soldier serum. You kind of have to be expecting it to know what they mean and I had an idea. Tony Stark was definitely there as a reference to Iron Man (i.s "I hear you are more into designer suits these days.") Thanks for the comment.

What do you mean when you say - "Instead I'll go all fan-boy on this one."
