Tells the seemingly random yet vitally connected story of a set of incidents that all converge one evening at 11:14pm. The story follows the chain of events of five different characters and five different storylines that all converge to tell the story of murder and deceit.
This is a film which is hard for me to review, basically because its truly complicating but smart movie. As the plot unfolds and the stories intwine, we find that director Greg Marcks made some pretty smart decisions throughout and created a spectacle in which is hard to forget. As we get black comedy thrown into the thriller genre, the film never bores and keeps you addicted to the plot and characters. There are actually some pretty well known stars here like veteran Patrick Swayze and Hilary Swank, but also follows a younger and less known cast including Colin Hanks and Ben Foster. Did I enjoy 11:14? Yes, with everything I possibly could. Do I recommend it? Strongly.
11:14 isnt exactly a major budget film, but it sure seems one. The casting director did a great job of combining the younger and less known cast to the few more known stars. Patrick Swayze and Hilary Swank have roles here which are exceptionally well done. Hilary Swank plays Buzzy, the girl who is working at a liquor store in which gets robbed by her best friend. Hilary Swank seems younger even though this film is only 5 years old. Well she seems to be the innocent little girl here with her short hair and surprisingly, braces! I have to say that she couldve done better in a few moments but she got me believing her character. Patrick Swayze stars as Frank, the father of a wh*re. His daughter Cheri, who's story is intwined here, has sex with like everybody she meets and such so I feel bad that he has no clue what his daughter is getting into, (or what is getting into her). Hes a fine actor whos been playing more minor roles lately but he still seems fine and polished here.
Some of the younger actors and actresses here put on some great performances to. Playing as Cheri, Rachael Leigh Cook puts on a strong performance here. She played some voices in the Adult Swin show Robot Chicken and the famous videogame Kingdom Hearts II, but she really shows her ability to bounce sexually on top of some random guy here while dealing with strong sexual pleasure. Actually she does a great job and I had to point out her performance. Shawn Hatosy plays one of Cheri's "boyfriends" Duffy. Cheri sets him up telling him shes pregnant and needs $500 for an abortion. When he robs his friends liquor store, he gets the money but ends up being arrested.
The one thing which makes 11:14 stand out as a great movie is the way all the characters are thrown together in the end, it kind of reminds you of Crash. As one gets hit by a car, the person who gets hit will get hit and so on, that was just an example of how the story is played out. I cant say the movie kept me guessing because there are times when they couldve changed up all the twists and such, but I found myself strangely stuck to the screen. I never wanted the movie to really end, but at the same time I did because I was so nervous for how the movie was going to end. Its funny because though we try and figure out the outcome of the film, we know how its going to end. I just think its funny how we know the end and we still are so surprised when its over.
11:14 is an amazing movie which never fails to entertain and kept me going for the 83 minutes we watch the movie. Highly recommended.
