Yep...I gave a Zombie flick a Half Star..
Favorite Movie Quote: "Give me one of your guns if something happens to you we cant risk losing both of them."
Christ....This movie was horrible. They took a great film and just sh*t all over it with bad EVERYTHING.
Does anyone who reads this review understand how much I like zombie flicks...and even further then that do you know how bad a zombie film has to be for me to rate it with a half star?
First off, this IS a remake. However unlike the Dawn of the Dead remake or the Night of the Living Dead remake this story IS NOTHING like the original. The original Day of the Dead took place in an old military bunker. This Day of the Dead takes place mostly in a hospital. Captain Rhodes in the original was white (which is not a big deal,) he was arrogant and he also lasted until the end of the film being a major character of it. In this one Captain Rhodes is Ving Rhames and he dies as soon as the zombie attack hits.
These are not zombies in this flick. They made the special effects look like demons or monsters and these things can scale walls like Aliens. How hard is it to make people look like zombies.....all you need is a little powder and some torn clothes......they tried to go TOO overboard with the look and it gave it a really cheap sci-fi channel feel to the whole film. The creatures appear to be more rapid then zombie and it really just pissed me off. Also you get to find out what a "vegetarian" zombie eats.....ARE YOU SERIOUS???
Yes you have some known faces such as Nick Cannon, Mena Suvari and Ving Rhames. I would really be concerned with my career after this atrocious crock pot of trash. Who in their right mind would cast Mena Suvari as an Army Corporal, she is a walking toothpick yet she is supposed to be the tough guy / hero of the film????
Nothing more was used then the name of the film and some character names, other then that you never feel like your watching a remake. I still do not understand the plot of this film, it just seems like a journey going no where. The character of Bud which was the zombie that the crazy doctor was teaching to be docile is used in this film like he was the center of the last one. I mean he is a normal person in this film which in the original we only meet him as a zombie but then he gets bit and turns and the idiots decide to ride around with him? Just so all of die hard fans can find some way to relate this film to the REAL Day of the Dead with a character that we are familiar with.
The rest of the cast is stiff, very un-convincing even jokes come out as TelePrompTer style lines. Zombies running up walls and crawling up ceilings, horrible dialogue, horrible lines, horrible acting, horrible effects, and EXTREMELY bad editing making even the "make you jump scenes" NOT EFFECTIVE at all.

| This movie was so horrible it made me sick. In that scene where the zombie jumps onto the ceiling and runs over it to fall in front of the guy, I instantly had a hate for this movie. |

| I'm kinda surprised Romero put his name to it, after all he has griped in the past regarding the new fast moving zombies. It's a shame I do like a good zombie flick and was kinda looking forward to this one. |

I dont get mad when I hear of a remake being made, I have never been like that with any remake but when they butcher a good film it really pisses me off. This was nothing more then an attempt to cash in on the name....the director obviously had to love for the original film as he did it no justice.
