Movie Review by Steven
November 1st, 2008

M Night Shyamalan is one of the most innovative filmmakers in recent years. He knows how to place characters in suspenseful situations very well and his techniques using sound, movement is interesting. In his latest film "The Happening" we begin in New York city where on a typical day people just start acting strange and killing themselves including horiific scene where construction workers just start jumping off a building. What the hell is going is going on?

Cut to Philadelphia where science teacher MArk Wahlberg hears that all of the NOrtheast is evacuating. Reports come on that it could be an airborne ecoterrorist attack. People freak out. You get the idea. I will reveal the twiat even though most people apparently thought iit was load of crap.

"The Happening" is really good storytelling and the pace of the flm and the way Shyamalan brings everything together is quite compelling. Everything works.

I have discussed with my friends that Shyamalan's first film, "The Sixth Sense" was his master work and since then he hasn't had that creative spark. I do agree on some level, but he still is a writer and filmmaker in my book not to mention his films (except for "the Village") are well cast.
