Movie Review by Zara
December 16th, 2007

This movie took a very long time to grow on me. I've always fancied myself as the female Randal, the character from the movie CLERKS that Jeff Anderson is most remembered for. As it should be. While this movie stretches to try and get some of those witty, off-hand comments about love and life like CLERKS does, it comes up with very little most of the time.

I attribute it to the fact that Randal married Caitlin. No... really. About 3 weeks after filming CLERKS with Smith and company, Anderson proposed marriage to Lisa Spoonhauer, the actress who played Caitlin Bree, Dante's girl. Or former girl. Or just obsession, whatever.

CLERKS was filmed in 1993 and the pair didn't actually tie the knot until 1998. They were married for 2 years before getting amicably divorced. But the fact that he wrote a movie about how couples can become so comfortable with one another that they start taking each other for granted has to have at least partially stemmed from his relationship with Spoonhauer.

All that aside, the best stuff in the movie comes from Trevor Fehrman, who was considered so good in this by Kevin Smith that he got cast in Smith's CLERKS 2 as the great Elias. I also quite enjoyed the portion of the movie in the bar with the recovering alcoholic, played by Paget Brewster. If you watch the movie and end up wondering where you remember her from, it's most likely as the girl that Joey was dating on "Friends" that Chandler won over by buying her a copy of The Velveteen Rabbit.

I wish this movie had been better (Sisto is still adorable, regardless) but at the same time I wouldn't call it a complete waste. You've just got to be patient and give it a little time to soak in. That, and frankly... you have to be an Anderson fan. It makes the problems easier to forgive.

Paget Brewster was also the female lead in The Specials.
