YEP. EVERYTHING THEY TAUGHT YOU WAS A LIE (NATCH!)
Favorite Movie Quote: "This is me taking control of my life."
Dazzling (but, at times, preposterous) visual effects aside, WANTED's 2 major flaws were - Taking itself way too seriously - and - Being in dire need of some genuine comedy relief.
In my opinion, the daunting and downright heavy-handedness of TIMUR BEKMAMBETOV's direction was what clearly prevented WANTED from becoming the fun, roller-coaster-ride-of-a-film that it was surely meant to be.
Of course, having MORGAN FREEMAN (one of Hollywood's worst black actors) in the cast didn't help matters much, either. FREEMAN, in one of his typically grave and sobering roles, played character Sloan. I find FREEMAN to be the sort of actor who's forever got this miserable, dark, and unwelcoming cloud hovering overhead, about 80% of the time.
ANGELINA JOLIE, as Fox, didn't fair much better, herself. It seems that the more I see of this woman, the less I grow to like her. I mean, not only is JOLIE a truly lousy actress, but she's not very photogenic, either.
I've noticed that whenever JOLIE is photographed in full-face close-ups that her looks are (for lack of a better word) "screwy" - Meaning that when ANGELINA looks straight at the camera, words like "beautiful" or "gorgeous" are definitely not what comes to my mind.
To say that WANTED's story was pure, nonsensical garbage would obviously be an understatement of the highest order.
WANTED's story concerns "business-as-usual" for a 1000 year-old organization called "The Fraternity" who seem to be doing a really terrible job of maintaining their deluded idea of "order in the world".
"The Fraternity" recruit their members by literally beating them to a pulp about a 1000 times. And once a new member has been beaten senseless, into total submission, then they are taught such valuable skills like shooting the wings off of flies, willing the path of a bullet to curve, and playing the assassin's "name game" where the victim's name is secretly revealed in the intricate weaving of a certain ancient fabric.
Naturally, "The Fraternity" is very-very particular about who they pick for their members - Like, take Wesley Gibson, for instance, he is such a frickin' all-time loser that when he goes to make a cash withdrawal from the local ATM machine (and he finds that his funds are seriously low), the machine actually prints out a "You Are An Arsehole!" statement for him. (Now, can you beat that for a desirable member?)
All-in-all - I'd confidently say that WANTED was well-worth a view. But this recommendation comes solely on the merits of WANTED's wild, over-the-top visuals, and, definitely, nothing else.
