Movie Review by Tim

Shot in only 23 days? Pretty amazing!

Favorite Movie Quote: "I'm just stealing sh*t. But you... what's a guy with a video camera doing in the women's dorm, huh?"

You say Zombie.....I'm there.

You say Romero.....I'm there

You say Zombie AND Romero.....I'm running with bells on.

Diary pissed me off from the start..it was not playing anywhere near me. I wanted to see it very bad but kind of lost interest when it opened in such a small release.

So going into this film I knew the budget was small but its a zombie flick...you don't need a huge budget to make a good zombie movie. I have not seen an official estimate on what this film cost to make but it only grossed $958,961 in the US box office and only $3,134,182 worldwide. This is largely due to the fact that it only opened in 42 theatres...that's right 42.

The film is shot like a documentary being that once the zombie outbreak occurs a film student thinks this is his shot to make a great movie...which he justify's as saying that "the people have a right to know the truth." Because of this the camera shots are sloppy and the angles are not always polished. I liked this to an extent but they used this really annoying way of skipping to the next scene by acting like the camera just cut off.....

The violence was pretty good, they came up with some great zombie kills that looked good, especially for low budget CGI. The problem is that you get to see about 4 or 5 really cool kills but then that's about it. This isn't like Dawn of The Dead or Day of the Dead where guns are going off every 5 seconds taking another zombie down, in this film they choose to run from the dead instead of exterminating them.

For zombie kills you get to see some heads get blown apart, a child get hung from a wall by an arrow in his head, a zombies brain get eaten in real time by a strong acid and my favorite which was a man killing himself by using a scythe which then kills the zombie trying to eat him from behind.

The worst part of the film is bar none the acting. I don't recognize any of the actors but some of them are really bad. Over acting was a big problem and some cheesy moments as well such as when the character Tracy Thurman hits a zombie and then says "you don't mess with Texas."

Also some just plain DUMB character moments where they make the worst decision ever which leads to death. I mean I know these movies aren't meant to be taken to seriously but come on they made some of the dumbest characters ever.

Note to fans: A few things gave homage to other Romero zombie films. Such as the zombie from Day of the Dead that sits up and his intestines fall out in the floor. There was another I noticed as well but my mind is not remembering it right now.

There is a Sequel in production already as well so I will be looking forward to see what else they are going to do with this.

Actually, Romero looked for actors and actresses who werent really known at all. I must say I agree about the kill factor though. Great review!

I figured that he cast it with unknowns so that it would be more believable as a "documentary" and I dont have a problem with that but some of the actors just gave a weak on screen performance.

Thanks for reading!

Oh yeah no problem. I read all your reviews. Some of the actors did give some weak performances though, I have to agree.
