I won't lie, this movie spooked me a little bit. A story about 6 adults attending the funeral of a seventh childhood friend who has recently offed himself, the movie goes for that supernatural, ghost slant. The score, the lighting, the sets are all spooky and well-serve that tingle at the back of your neck angle.
It also has a good number of people that I like in it, even if they've been somewhat forgotten by Hollywood in recent years. I've always been a big fan of Dina Meyer's, even if she mainly appears in low budget crap. (I remember her fondly from STARSHIP TROOPERS, a movie that I'm a fan of, so shut up.) There's also George Newbern (the husband-to-be in the FATHER OF THE BRIDE remake), Frank Whaley (who I will always say "JimGet" when I see on screen, courtesy of the undervalued CAREER OPPORTUNITIES), Gabrielle Anwar, (that pretty thing from WILD HEARTS CAN'T BE BROKEN) and Traci Lords who needs no introduction, took a lot of sh*t about her acting and place in the Hollywood machine and who turns in a pretty damn good performance here.
But the movie is too vague in places, more than is needed for a movie of its nature. Sure, you don't have to have everything explained to you about a ghost story, but there are portions of the flick that just don't mesh. And the injuries sustained and subsequently shrugged off by a couple of the victims don't jive either.
But as an example, I'll say the same about JEEPERS CREEPERS (the first one) and how it creeped me out and then disappointed me. This movie is similar. It got me worked up and then somehow, where I didn't even notice it, it dropped the ball.
Still, much better than most of the manufactured, "reimagined" remake stuff they keep putting out lately.
