'Over Her Dead Body' could be best described as a Ghost knock-off, if Demi Moore and Whoopi Goldberg had a lesbian relationship and it made Patrick Swayze jealous. He could then have tormented Goldberg, the psychic and thus the only person able to see him and talk to him. Ghost was a very good supernatural romance, without much comedy. 'Over Her Dead Body' is a very bad supernatural romance, with comedy, or attempted comedy. Maybe I should say bland rather than bad, because the whole movie is really just plain forgettable, but for some it could be a pleasant diversion, and might be a decent way to spend an evening with a significant other, if you had absolutely nothing else to do. Eva Longoria is Kate, who is about to be married to Henry (Rudd) before she suddenly dies in an accident involving an ice sculpture. Henry's sister Chloe (Sloane) hires a medium named Ashley (Lake Bell) in an effort to get Henry back into the dating scene. Henry and Ashley eventually fall in love. Kate's spirit then haunts Ashley, and intends to make her miserable until she dumps Henry. Jason Biggs is Dan, Ashley's best friend, and they would make a cute couple, but I believe Dan is supposed to be gay.
Rudd and Bell have practically no chemistry. They are both good-looking, but their interactions seem artificial, as if they were simply going through the motions of a serious relationship. Rudd is also not funny here, which is unusual, if one is familiar with his roles in other films. Biggs is obnoxious, but also kind of sweet. Longoria gets top billing, but there's nothing special about her presence. And her character is not very likable; she seems mean, stuck-up, and vindictive. In addition to Ghost, I would also argue that the movie borrows elements from Just Like Heaven and even My Super Ex-Girlfriend. It does not contain any original ideas, and is not above turning to flatulence jokes to get a few cheap laughs. That is usually a sign of desperation. There are also inconsistencies and goofs with what Kate is able to do as a ghost, but then these things turn up time and again in many movies of this type.
