Movie Review by Martin
May 11th, 2010

"Kung fu panda" is another in the long line of average CGI cartoons starring animal characters all voiced by famous actors. I had heard this was great, but I found it to be in the same group as all the other similar movies to this we have had, most of all from Dreamworks.

The story (such as it is) sees an idiot mistaken for the chosen one, only to eventually prove he really is the chosen one by the end of the movie.

All the stars that do voices in this seem totally underused, I mean, I've just learnt that Angelina Jolie did one of the voices? I never even noticed! Great unmistakeable voices like Seth Rogans and David Cross' are totally underused, while Dustin Hoffmans only on board to add some serious star power! The Best voice used is husky Ian McShane's, as the villain. This bad-guy who is a tiger, sort of has the same sleazy charm to him as Sher Khan did in Disney's "The Jungle book."

The Main character though, is voiced by take over Jack Black, and he is the reason you will either love or hate this movie. I Don't mind him in most of the things I have seen him in where he is a loud, easily excited kind off guy, but the panda he's playing here is such a disgusting, fat, idiotic oaf I found him irritating through most of the movie. He's the annoying comedy sidekick you get in other movies like this, but unfortunately here though, he is the lead.

The best thing about "Kung Fu panda" is its over the top cartoonish action, but its expecting to many laughs from having Po the panda fall over and hurt himself all the time to win me over as a funny comedy. Kids will love it though, and that's who its aimed at after all.
