When I saw the previews for P.S. I Love You, I thought "just another chick flick." But I was very pleasantly surprised when I saw it. I had a feeling that it would be a movie that was so sappy that it would make the audience choke.
But it wasn't; P.S. I Love You has a perfect blend of sadness, and little light-heartedness. This is not saying that that the light moments belittle the sadness; no, rather the opposite. It adds to it, because it mirrors real life. Real life is not all about sadness, but about the good moments mixed in.
P.S. I Love You is about the love that every woman (and probably the men too, but they just won't admit it :P) aspires to one day have in there life. It shows that no matter what, when you have that one special person, that one special love in your life, you can get into any manner of small fights, and even if you really don't appreciate what you have until it's gone, that person is always a part of you, and only wants your happiness.
P.S. I Love You is headed by an awesome cast who has a great and wonderful working chemistry together. This movie is a rare treasure because every single person of the cast gets along really well, as if they all knew each other and were friends, not just on the screen, but in real life.
SYNOPSIS OF PLOT:(might have a few spoilers, but I don't think so... depends on your view of a spoiler I guess :p)
Holly (Hilary Swank) is a young woman married to a happy, carefree Irish guy, Gerry (Gerard Butler), who is almost her opposite, yet completes her in so many ways. Gerry has a terminal illness, and knows that his time is coming. Soon. So he writes a series of letters with "assignments" for his wife Holly to do so that she can get over him and move on with her life. After Gerry's death, the life just goes out of Holly, and she has no reason to live. Until her first assignment arrives. After the first letter, Holly's life is ruled by the letters.
This is a movie about love, coping, moving on, and friendship. Even if you aren't a big fan of the romantic comedy genre, you will love this movie. It has something for everyone, and doesn't try to force the grief and sadness on you. But, it connects to everyone because everyone has experienced some loss and grief in their lives.
