Though there is lots to like about this movie, i kinda knew i wasn't going to love it. Which is why it has taken me till now to see it. What was stoping me from seeing it before was the fact that the whole film evolves around a kid who acts way to much like an adult. Something i genuiely hate at the best of times. (With the exception of Macually Culkin in Home alone :D)
"Juno" has been highly praised for Ellen Pages performance. Theres no denying Page is a talented actress (and no doubt older than 16) but throughout the movie, i found the character she was playing irritating. She is way to c*cky and selfish most of the time to be in any way likeable, and the whole subject of kids getting knocked up and then having to deal with it, while others out there are desprete for kids and can't have them, annoys me anyway. With this film showing pregnancy as something that can easily be dealt with by a stupid little girl with an attitude enrages me and makes me want to hate the movie more than i actually do. On reminding myself that it is just a movie at the end of the day, i have to admit that it is quite a funny one, with plenty of drama evovling around the characters relationships instead of the pregnancy itself. Although most of the characters seem just as care free as each other.
I enjoyed the movie even though i didn't care for Juno herself and the laid back attitude of the whole thing did make me laugh at times. It is a different approach to a teen romcom at the end of the day, and one that grabs your attention. Some of the one liners are awesome!
