Sweet Adams Despite Dempsey

Finally a new age of the Disney Princess is upon us. Just like when the little mermaid allowed us to reimagine what an animated movie could be like, here we have a Princess thrown into the modern world of New York City without any knowledge of such a world and with the same mentality of her homeland. Amy Adams is the perfect choice for this role. I can't imagine any other actress who looks, sounds and sings like the typical Princess. She wears her heartache and passion on her sleeve and yet we see her evolve into another kind of women before our very eyes.

Unfortunately, the man she falls for is played blandly by Patrick Dempsey. McDreamy is outshone by Adams and James Marsden as the Prince Charming of our fairy tale. Also, Idina Menzel is terribly wasted as Dempsey's girlfriend. Here you have one of the great Broadway actresses of our time left without a song or a real character.

However, it is Adams that carries us through and it is she we are left to remember when the credits roll; her and the pitch-perfect songs in this delightful spin on fairy tale romance.

Heart-warming and fun despite some disappointments.
