Intense and Real

Director Peter Berg already has a history with his film Friday Night Lights, which was excellent. With The Kingdom, Peters directing tells a tale of real world troubles and the war on terrorism. Excellent directing and a good script improve the film on the level of originality. The action scenes, though there are few, are intense and mapped out with excellence.

Jamie Foxx did a great job in Micheal Manns film Miami Vice, which didnt interest me very much, and does a good job in The Kingdom. His character is mean and to the point, the perfect role for Jamie. His humor is also sly and facial expressions show everything on him. Jennifer Gardner didnt do as great as I hoped for in here, as I think she couldve done more to add reality to her character. Instead, her character is one sided. One thing that the film lacks is the character development, mainly because the script worries to much about the basic plot than anything.

The action scenes were the best parts of the movie. In the opening, we get a little introduction to what we will be getting in the last 30 minutes of the movie. Though a little bloody and exaggerated, the action moments got my blood racing and my eyes were glued to the screen. The highway explosion was my favorite part, mainly because I love watching cars flip and roll. The last 30 minutes are indeed adrenaline pumping and heart racing.

There were a few flaws to the film as well. In the middle of the movie, I seriously began to get bored. I think because the film lacked good character development and excitement. You can tell that Peter Berg directed the movie, I mean with all the acoustic string scores and the shaky camera style, its noticeable.

Bottom Line: To Me, It Comes Out Pretty Good
