Another great performance by Tommy Lee Jones as a driven and authentic individual. But honestly, there is nothing special that sets this aside from all of the other performances that he's given where he was a smart, driven and determined man.
The movie chooses to try and highlight some of the atrocities associated with the soldiers involvement in the war in Iraq, but it lacks teeth. Based on true stories or not, this movie plays a lot like a hyped up episode of Law & Order (or some such other drama that people tune in for every week to see who killed who and why). The performances, both by Jones and Charlize Theron are strong, but the rest of the characters in the movie are given a waxing over.
Probably the biggest scene that got on my nerves was the handling of the soldier & his wife that weren't involved in the main storyline. The scene feels jammed into the movie sideways for effect, not giving the resonance that the director was hoping for. If you have to be that obvious, you're trying too hard.
It's a good start or a lighter fluffy side of the story when it comes to the war situation going on right now, but nothing more.
