I once had a girl or should I say she once had me
Upon discovering that this movie had 8 reviews and an average of 3 stars.....I must admit that I was a bit stunned.
I read once that a couple was unable to sit through 90 minutes of the film.
I read more than once that the songs included and/or the Beatle's lyrical references seemed contrived, forced or obvious.
(I also read a couple time that the "Dear Prudence" scene was painful, and while I wouldn't maybe be quite as harsh, I tend to agree with this one criticism, mostly because the character of Prudence was lame and weak and annoying).
My opinion will be held back for a moment while you consider my background.
My father is the biggest Beatle's fan I have ever met. My Birthday is October 9, 1978. That's John ( & Sean) Lennon's Birthday for those not in the know. I don't think there's anything that could've made him happier about his firstborn. The Beatles are weaved into the fabric of my life; I cannot imagine what it would be without them.
So perhaps I come from a totally other place than these other reviewers. Perhaps I see this as a musical created around the songs of the Beatles and not as a separate film.... working the songs and references in. I was delighted turn by turn with the character's names and hither and yon quotes thrown to the wind.
There was more than one scene that moved me, but theone that stood out the most was when Max went for his "date with Uncle Sam", and the song of the hour was 'I Want You (she's so Heavy)"...a song I once thought sooo sexxxy...and now will forevermore be a War-seduction tune in my mind.
I adored almost everything about this film. I HIGHLY recommend it to any fans of the Fab Four.
