Solid
I really dont understand completely why Death Sentence is hated so much, by critics and movie loves all over the United States. James Wan is the man behind Saw, the disaster of Dead Silence and now this, Death Sentence. I actually think that Death Sentence is very good. It is brutally fun, emotionally gripping and intense. Since James Wan did Saw, I was kind of hoping he would take over the action/revenge genre real soon, because he's young and knows what people want to see in their movies.
Death Sentence is very well done in the action and thriller area of things. James took control of about 4 major action scenes, and completely blew me away. With Shoot 'Em Up style violence and scenes of straight mayhem, the scenes are not hard at all to really get into. Theyre brutal, fast paced and very violent. Plus theyre shot nicely.
I dont really like discussing acting in my reviews, because to me its the final film which really counts. I have to say that I have a new found respect for Kevin Bacon, because I have never seen him play a role like he does in Death Sentence. He handles the character well and does a really good job creating the best character in the whole movie.
This film is very emotional, as it deals with the death of a son, and a family. The hardest thing about it though is the fact that his son was killed because the member wanted to join a clan, thats really hard to go through. The thing is that it deals with gang wars, a touchy subject in which is real in todays society. I love all the characters that play in the gang, and theyre really tough and believable.
A few negative things though. The first thing is the fact that sometimes, the movie does go over the top with the violence. Plus, the movie has been seen a thousands time before, just with a different title and actors.

| I also have to say that I have a new found respect for Kevin Bacon, because I have never seen him play a role like he does in Death Sentence. I never did like him as an actor. He played in A Few Good Men in which he did a good job. But this actor never grabed me to be great. This is definitely a different role for Mr. Bacon. He also did a movie called "Trapped" in which I did feel trapped with him it. If you are a fan of Mr. Bacon, then these movies are good with him in them. |
