Movie Review by Zombie Boy
February 12th, 2008

This is a very, very silly film. Directed by the guy who brought us another very, very silly film, SAW, I can't imagine why I expected better. He went ahead and made Kevin Bacon look just as stupid as he made Cary Elwes look. Good for him. Any other good actors he'd like to blow his load on?

Bacon's character, Nick Hume, apparently undergoes a mystifying transmogrification from insurance adjuster to ninja after the most incredibly cliched film hoodlums in the history of cinema kill his innocent son in a gang initiation ritual. He makes it a point to take several of them out, but makes sure to cry like a baby afterwards each time. Then he is flabbergasted when the hoodlums come after his family. Guess it's time to buy a bunch of guns and read the manuals, thus making him an expert marksman.

Yes, there are splendid action sequences and squishy kills, but the parts in between the violence are ham-fisted, and that is a generous designation. In fact, I might have liked the film better if it had been marketed as a comedy. It gets two stars for being MST3Kable.
