Movie Review by Zara

Um....

I was really hoping that I was going to like this flick more. I understood that the opinions on it varied wildly, from some people believing that this was the way that GRINDHOUSE should have gone to others who thought it was a convoluted mess. I have to say that I'm with the latter group.

I've been a fan of James Duval since watching him in THE DOOM GENERATION and always admired that rather than try to mine the Keanu Reeves route, he continued to work with the more underground directors. (Hey, he couldn't help it if DONNIE DARKO became a success. Who could have predicted that?)

But this movie doesn't have enough James. The only person that there is a great deal of screen time devoted to is lead Sarah Lassez. I won't complain about that. In fact, she's what made me give this movie one star instead of zero. She's got a beautiful which is uncommon amongst most Hollywood actresses these days. Which is probably why she hasn't been assimilated amongst them.

The movie isn't so much about a brain disorder as it is a tangle of steak loving, priest f*cking, Mad Cow Disease infecting, brother f*cking, television masturbating, bad kung-fu show watching, blood drenched madness. Normally I would be ok with that.

And it's VERY low budget. Which doesn't always bug me. In fact, it's not really what bugged me here. It's more that it had this art student vibe to it, a genre that I find highly aggravating and annoying. I got about an hour into the movie and had to check the time, it felt like it had been much longer than that.

Other than Lassez's looks, I can't find much to praise about the flick. I like weird... but this isn't weird. This is just bad.
