The Best Movie of the Summer
I was very lucky to get to see this movie last night at a Super Secret Screening during a Film Festival here in town. This is not only the Best Movie of the Summer, but also one of the Best Fairy Tales Films ever. It ranks right alongside Snow White and The Princess Bride.
Speaking of Princess Bride, when you cross a lot of that with a little of The Lord of the Rings and Narnia, then you get Stardust!
The movie is about Tristan. When Tristan and the woman he is courting witness a falling star, Tristan promises Victoria that he will bring her back the star in exchange for her hand in marriage. The star has fallen on the other side of a wall in an enchanted realm.
When he finds the star, Tristan is shocked to discover that the star is in fact a woman. As Tristan takes Yvaine on a journey towards his village, little does he know that others are looking for her including an evil Witch and a ruthless Prince. Thrown in an encounter with some Pirates (Robert DeNiro steals this movie as Captain Shakespeare) and you have a very magical ride.
The F/X are great and the story flys. This may be one for the ages!
