Movie Review by Chris April 25th, 2008

Lately, I have been seeing a lot of good movies, mainly because thats all I have been choosing to watch, and for a very strange reason, I really like this movie. It was one of the more "underground" Danny Boyle films to be released in a while, but it still got some attention by many. I saw 28 Days Later, but not Trainspotting, but 28 Days Later was terrific. Sunshine is a sci fi/thriller/horror film based on astronauts and space. While I am not a huge fan for sci fi films, I instantly liked this film, as I was caught in all the suspense and characters that I couldnt stop watching it.
This film is very real when it comes to taking a theory of how the world could end, and putting it 50 years into the future. While 99.9% of the movie takes place in the ship in space, many elemtents, including the production design to the technology they use all gives us hints of the setting. Danny Boyle has been known for his way of capturing the environment on film, while many of the setting are small and enclosed, many details were imported into the scenery.
One thing which deeply captured my attention was this, the film is based off a theory stating that the earth will be thrown into an ice age after the dying of the sun. The mission in here is to try and stop this, while most likely this film is fictional and some what fantasy, it looks at a real problem. So, after watching the movie, it got me thinking about how important it is to live life at the fullest, and never let dreams go. I dont know.
Danny Boyle is excellent behind the camera and how the film looks visually. When the film begins, we thing were going to be thrown into a suicide journey and we will see how this all unfolds. We have no idea that towards the end, a killer comes onto the ship and there begins the horror element of the film. While never seen directly clear, the man is absoulutely terrifying, one good thing about Boyle, his blood.
