Give it time
Not all sex is good from the beginning. The same is true with movies. This one in particular is rough because it starts out particularly badly. I've never been a huge fan of Azura Skye, that funny faced girl who was third fiddle to Selma Blair and that guy who went on to play Lex Luther on "Smallville," (I should know his name but I'm blanking right now) on that one show which aired for a few episodes on the WB before... what was I saying again?
That's kind of my point. The movie starts out with no clear direction. I didn't read too much into the plot and it isn't easily discernible within the first 15-20 minutes. You've got to let this one stew for awhile until it begins to come together, like waiting for sugar cooking on the oven to reach a certain point when making candy. Unfortunately that portion of the movie is the one that features Elizabeth Banks, someone who I've grown quite fond of. Trouble here is that her character isn't given too much to do and what she is given to do makes her annoying.
I thought I would feel that way about Anne Heche's part simply because, well... she's Anne Heche. But it turned out that I could understand where she was coming from. But it was Eion Bailey as the jilted boyfriend slightly more than mid-way through who resonates the strongest. We've all had someone we loved (or thought we really did) leave us for the more viable option and then spent our twisted emotional time telling them to get the f*ck lost when they wouldn't leave us alone.
If you're going to be close to me, I have to touch you. That's why we can't be friends. Truer words were never spoken.
Ignore the beginning and wait it out. It's worth it as a package.
