Briefly...
I tried to read the first book in this series and ended up having to choke it down like a bad piece of some overcooked vegetable. The first couple of movies were entertaining diversions. The third was probably my favorite, directed by the man who made Y TU MAMA TAMBIEN, dark and sexy and the introduction to Gary Oldman as whatever the name of his character is.
But frankly, I don't understand the appeal of the books. I don't get why there are adults who go nuts over this crap. To each their own and all that jazz, but I don't get it.
The movie has some really great special effects. Great. Whoopie. So does every other movie that's been released this summer. That doesn't automatically make it entertaining. (And for the record, the stars that I'm giving this movie are for the effects and for the minimal screen time that Oldman and Alan Rickman get - especially when we find out that Rickman was a goth boy who was tortured in high school by Harry Potter's dad.)
Other than the special effects, I could give a sh*t about any of these people. I was somewhat interested in Ron and Hermione (sp?) when they were introduced but there is very little involving them in this movie. It's just another SPIDER-EMO where Harry Potter tries to teach the other kids some magic and gets all emotional and feels bad about feeling angry all the time.
*Yawn*
If you're not a fan of the books, I can't honestly get behind this movie and tell you to spend money to see it. TRANSFORMERS is far more entertaining for the special effect aspect. Go see that instead.

I agree that Harry Potter 3 was the best movie (and book) of the Series. I loved HP5, but mostly because I love the books. My daughter loved it, but then she's 6. These books are so full of interesting characters and details, I think its very difficult to translate that into a movie.

Obviously, Zara, you're an old head! Where is the inner child in you? Aren't you a happy person? Perhaps a shrink can help you... as a last resort... because you are already almost a lost cause. Are you even worth saving?

You hit it dead on "gets all emotional and feels bad about feeling angry all the time." The I'm an angry emotional teen crap completely ruined the movie for me. I felt Harry was a pretty weak character through the entire movie. I'll give the movie 2 1/2 stars tops. Thats only because I tend to enjoy the potter movies.

I don't understand what is it that people liked about this movie. I have watched every single Harry Potter movie, and so far I only like the first three. The next movies, I thought it got a little repetitive because it's always Voldemort trying to kill Harry but failing and somehow disappearing only to return in the next movie. In Order Of Phoenix, nothing barely happened yet all these ignorant Harry Potter book fans thinks it's the best movie of the summer. Maybe the book was great, but certainly not this movie. I think Transformers was a better movie than Order Of Phoenix. Even so the critics gave Transformers a bad review because they wanted to see more fighting between Megatron and Optimus Prime, or they couldn't connect to the characters. Well, I say screw them! Also what is it that the ignorant Potter lovers loved about this film, because I would love to know.
