Movie Review by The Alpha Craig
March 20th, 2008

His hair looks great for blind guy.

Favorite Movie Quote: "Are you naked again?"

First off let me get two things off my chest. The first one is that I have been complacent in writing reviews because I have moved from Washington to California, sorry my bad. Second is that I kept waiting for Chris Pine to bust out a "Captain Kirk-ism" (which wouldn't make sense since this movie was made in 2006 and the new Trek movie isn't done yet.) I will endeavor to press on because I am responsible for the lives of 430 readers; I cannot and will not compromise their safety! KHAAAAAAAAAAANNNNN! Sorry about that.

Danny is a young blind man who was overcoming all of the everyday challenges of life. One of those challenges was putting up with all of the strange women his brother Larry set him up. One day he met a new nurse, Leeza, at the Medical Research Facility he was scheduled to have surgery at that might allow him to see. The two of them didn't get along at first but eventually developed feelings for each other. Now Danny must decide if she is the one or if he should continue "Blind Dating."

This was a "cute" movie. The humor was not overly shocking or sappy. They didn't really dance around the fact that Danny was insecure about whether women found him attractive or not (although as my lady person says, "even a blind person could tell Chris Pine is hot") and that it was difficult for him to be aroused by a woman dancing for him (being as how he couldn't see her body movements.)

They set the dates up with the same humor and feeling as in DUECE BIGOLO: MALE GIGOLO. Each one of them seemed to have some fatal character flaw or quirk that made them effectively un-dateable. Now, correct me if I am wrong, but wouldn't many women find an attractive, clever, funny and smart blind guy to be irresistible? I imagine if Chris Pine was blind, but never an actor, he wouldn't have any trouble meeting women. I can't understand why they made him have to be set up. I guess it makes more sense than if he was an average to ugly looking guy.

Chris Pine (STARK TREK) was good. You might expect that he would be bitterer about his station in life, but he didn't seem too negative or positive, just kind of middle-of-the-road outlook on life (which is much more realistic if you ask me.) Anjali Jay was good as the contemporary Indian woman torn between wanting to be her own person while respecting her culture (how's that for a conundrum?) Eddie Kaya Thomas (HAROLD AND KUMAR 2) reminded me of Robert Romanus as Mike Damone in FAST TIMES AT RIDGEMONT HIGH. Not so much in the personality, but with how he was picking the girls out felt kind of like how Damone scalped his concert tickets.

This was a very decent "cute" movie. It was Vanilla frosting on yellow cake, just the right amount of sweetness without it being too sugary or too bland.
