Favorite Movie Quote: ""Your mother was the only woman I loved. I would've waited a 1000 years for her.""
Chris Pine is f*cking adorable. Plus, he's versatile. He can do the romantic comedy thing without making you want to puke, he can play a Tremor Brother in SMOKIN' ACES and knock off Ben Affleck and then deliver a puppetry speech which knocks your socks off. And if that doesn't prove enough, the man got tapped to play Captain Kirk in the new STAR TREK remake movie.
Which is, well... f*cking awesome. Plus there's a "Heroes" connection between that and this movie. In this movie, Mohinder is the financee of the Indian chick that Pine's blind Italian falls for. In the ST remake, Zachary Quinto (Sylar, baby!!) is playing Mr. Spock. I'm such a geek. I had to get that out of the way.
While this could have been deluged with the typical blind jokes (think Duece Bigalow and his crappy dates), it isn't. There are hints of it, kind of like a light version of THE 40 YEAR OLD VIRGIN since Pine's character is a 22 year old one. But that isn't a running gag either.
Nah, I'd liken this movie a little more to the popular MY BIG FAT GREEK WEDDING, minus the wedding and the introduction to the families. No, this was about two people discovering what love was in a definition that they hadn't been prepared for. That it wasn't dedication or obligation. That it was a feeling that just was felt.
It's worth a check for the sheer fact that the characters aren't caricatures (aside from Pine having a "bro" best friend - that common trend recently where the lead white character is given a black brotha or sista to show them the way through life with a dash of urban flava, but still act pretty mainstream), the parents of Pine are two regular looking Italians who love their children, even with their flaws, and that most of the blind jokes are so casual that you laugh after the fact because they're designed for you to miss them.
But it's the ones that are obvious which hold the movie back. Plus the super liberal, happy ending that they give everyone. And honestly, I drool in my panties for Pine, but the cliche of every blind guy in a movie being a complete hottie and not understanding that he's good looking is getting to be annoying.
I still liked it. It's still better than most of the other tripe getting released lately. And sadly, it was one of those films that missed out on getting a theatrical release, so you've got to go straight to your queue to get it. And there wasn't a wait. Which is sad too.
I'm blathering at this point, so I'll finish there.
