Movie Review by The Alpha Craig
November 25th, 2007

I'm open-minded. You're an angel.

I wasn't sure how this movie was going to play out. The humor was so dead pan in its delivery (not to mention spoken in French) that I wasn't sure if they were being serious or joking. I did find myself laughing at some of the preposterous moments throughout the film, which follows the whole "what happens and what you think happens aren't always the same thing" mentality.

André was in so much debt that he had no hope of ever paying if off. He decided to leap off a bridge and into the Seine River. As he was about to jump, he noticed a stunning blonde woman named Angela ready to make the same leap. He tried to find out why and she jumped before he could stop her. He followed suit and pulled her from the water. She vowed her life to him for saving his life and they must now figure get him out of debt. In the process André finds out he wasn't saving Angela, but it was her saving him.

Stylistically this was a cool looking film (cool as in temperature.) The whole thing is in Black and White with several blurred segments. This is the kind of movie Luc Besson is good at, Fifth Element was good, but this seems to be more his bag.

André (BABYLON AD) as Jamel Debbouze was very commanding considering he is only 5'5". He is the nice guy with absolutely no confidence which means he will bend over backwards for you with even the slightest bit of flattery. Rie Rasmussen (II VESTITO) as Angela was also very commanding which isn't a surprise considering she is 6 feet tall. She really kept you guessing with what she was going to do next, or what she just did. They both played very well off each other and made the movie what it was, a clever dramedy.
