Movie Review by JB

these guys want to be Richard Donner

First off let me say, I think all these guys want to be Richard Donner.

The group dynamic of the Richards, Storm, Grimm, and Blaze is what makes this franchise special. They all play off each others, and most use their powers in an antipathy for each other. This brings a lot of joking and fun to who they are. Even Ben Grimm's blind girlfriend is hinted around having natural super powers, "Hey Johnny -- Wow, does that amazing anyone else? How did she know it was me? I didn't say anything -- well to be honest, you kind of smell like ash".

Rise of the Silver Surfer, focuses on the effect of the Silver Surfer on everyone and everything, especially the Fantastic Four. This becomes the story behind the story, of the Earth's battle to survive a depleted ozone layer and the science trying to save it. The idea that the ozone layer bounces Cosmic Rays off it back into space and earth environment is being changed, with huge holes being created all over earth. He is drilling holes into the earth to gather energy, surely leading to Earth extinction.

They're all related to the Cosmic force (Silver Surfer).

It all comes down to Reed Richards standing up for what he knows deep down inside is right thing to do. He can now longer trust the Government and now he must take things into his own hands, and he now is the one that leads the team, not the 'high school quarterback'.

Well there is a whole third act with some cool 'Cosmic' twists and Government run amuck, and Doom almost destroying the world cause of it.

Notable Quotes:

"Why isn't it working? -- We were too late".

"What is it? -- Venice is sinking into the Adriatic (sea)."
------------------------------------------------------------------ ----------------

Yeah, Ozone depletion, by us mining the Earth's natural resources... I get it.
