Darwin's Nightmare (2004)

Unintended consequences
I remember from a Sociology course the Law of Unintended Consequences, popularized by Robert K. Merton. Of course, the most obvious example to historians is WWII, which resulted from the disastrous Treaty of Versailles.
This outstanding documentary shows again what can happen when we do not think ahead. A predator is introduced into the second largest lake in the world 50 years ago. It destroys the economic basis of the people, but it also gives them a new economy. But wait, this new economy is not going to benefit them like the old ways, and it will not last.
Seeing the consequences of our actions makes us think. This documentary will p*ss you off and make you think. It does not give you the answers; it makes you come up with them on your own. Let's hope we come up with the right ones.
