Movie Review by Zara April 19th, 2008

I am giving this movie a little more credit (half star) just for having Jessica Biel looking so damn fine in it. (And for her actually coming off as plausible as possible given the silly role that she is saddled with. I might even venture to say that this is best that I've seen her do so far.)
I don't buy that her character would be into Cage's character though. While the movie hints that she is the key to unlocking the full potential of his ability to see into the future, there really isn't a whole lot of chemistry that you can feel coming from between the two. It's like watching father and daughter and not a couple.
There are some righteous action scenes in it which can't be ignored. There's also the superb Julianne Moore, an actress that I kinda feel sorry for because as good as she is, in order to keep getting roles and a paycheck, she has to accept making a lot of crap movies. Good old Hollyweird.
What you can't overlook is that this movie is silly. If it were released with more practical effects and less CGI effects back in the '80's, I might have been a little more impressed. But the story is so weak, the movie falls back on hoping that the flash and dazzle will do it for you. For me, it doesn't.
I think I'll search out the Phillip K Dick book that this is based on and try to fit that in with the pile of other books that I haven't read because I'm too busy. Something tells me that the source material probably had a lot more guts to it.
