First I'd like to say that, after reading some of the reviews along with my own experiences with family and friends, I believe that this movie appeals more to females than males. I think that there are a lot of underlying issues touched upon in this movie, that if they had fleshed those areas out a bit more it could have made this movie even better. While not scary, it is suspenseful in the sense that you feel the clock ticking.
The movie follows Nick, a smart and popular high school senior who is dealing with the death of his father, trying to figure out how to reconnect with his grieving mother (some of those issues) and struggling with expectations (college) vs. personal wants (going to London to write). After a brief confrontation with the "troubled girl", Annie, at school he is set up by his best friend and gets the crap beaten out of him by Annie and her friends. Thinking that they've killed him, they dump his body in a storm drain.
The next morning we see him "wake up" and figure out that nobody can see or hear him. He follows Annie around, soon realizing that she can hear him, trying to convince her to help the police find his body before time runs out. Annie has her own issues to deal with though, and is also fearful of the consequences.
Annie is portrayed by relative newcomer Margarita Levieva, who does a wonderful job. If this school were shown to be a rough, inner city school, her role as the school "thug" would not be believable but just by the fact that Nick is well off I believe this is more of a suburbian type of school which makes the character more believable.
The movie encompasses a lot of human emotion and growth and shows teens maturing and learning how to see beyond the outer shell showing that not everybody is as they appear....everybody has their own problems to deal with. In the end, Annie steps up and does the right thing, making the ultimate sacrifice in the process.

| I loved this movie. Levieva was too cool. She definitely had some onscreen chemistry with Chatwin. |
