Still Blowing It.....
Favorite Movie Quote: "People are dying... we need guns!"
Ok so this movie scared the crap out of me....not because the Aliens or the Predators were scary but honestly this movie is filmed so dark that I thought my 57" Widescreen TV that has vivid color was starting to go out on me. Then I read a bunch of other people complaining about the same thing so I was relieved.
I don't care to talk much about the character or plot because everything was just so average that I cant think of anything good to write about it. However what I do want to discuss is how many nods to the other Aliens and Predator films there are in the film.
First off Steven Pasquale plays Dallas Howard.......Dallas was the name of Tom Skerritt's character in Alien.
The line "Get To The Chopper" was used when telling Kelly O'Brien to leave and this same line was used by Arnold Schwarzenegger in the original Predator.
In the gun shop when they have the battle with the Aliens....One guys face is burned by the blood of an alien (because its acid) down one side JUST like Drake in Aliens.
When Sheriff Eddie Morales (played by John Ortiz who you have to remember from Carlitos Way as Carlito's nephew that gets killed very quick) gets the to evac point he fires twice with his shotgun and you hear an Alien screech. This was exactly the same as a scene with Hicks in Aliens.
The tank that the crew finds after the National Guard has been wiped out looks nothing like the APC from Aliens (which stands for Armored Personnel Carrier) however as soon as they embark in it the exact same bell ringing noise is heard from Aliens, when Ripley was trying to escape in the APC.
When the National Guard first arrives in Colorado on Main Street, the troops are killed very quickly just like in Aliens when they walk into the first battle. Also it is raining just like when the marines arrive on LV426 in Aliens. Then to top it off the Lieutenant which happens to be black just like Sgt. Apone in Aliens, gets killed in the first battle creating a panic.
When the helicopter is taking off at the end and they need to leave because an alien is attacking them, the brother will not let the pilot leave saying that his brother will be there....almost identical to Ripley not letting Bishop leave without Newt in Aliens.
When the bomb is dropped and the helicopter is making the escape from the blast...THE SAME music is played when Ripley and Bishop are making their escape from the thermonuclear explosion that goes off on LV426.
Also when Ricky is talking to his brother Dallas after panic firing into the AC duct...he gets stabbed in the back with an Alien tail the same as Bishop does in Aliens.
One thing I will note is that in Aliens Hicks says they have 4 pulse rifles with 50 rounds each, which seem to last through many battles...however in this one the 30 round standard mags that the M4 assault rifles take seem to run out quickly for everyone BUT Kelly....which obviously is meant to mirror the character of Vasquez from Aliens WHICH carried an M54 smartgun instead of the M41A pulse rifle in Aliens.....WHICH...wait for it .....wait for it......wait for it......carried a good many more rounds then the other Marines weapons.
Yes I am sure I missed some but the director did a fine job working in some of the magic from one of my favorite films of all time. The similarities in Aliens and AVP2 is outstanding!
Somebody clap for me.
