Movie Review by Zombie Boy
December 30th, 2007

AVP:R is not a good movie.

Never forget that.

However, it serves the needs of its demographic. It's vulgar, and brutal, and doesn't waste much time.

Eschewing any explanation or nods to the previous entry, the film opens on a Predator spaceship, with the unsettling image of a chest-burster, well, bursting forth from a Predator. All hell breaks loose, and the ship goes down...releasing all of the little face-huggers from their respective jars in the ship's lab. Where do you think the ship crash-lands? Yup, earth. And that is really all you need to know. There are the Alien/Human hybrids, a rogue Predator come to eliminate any traces of them, and the Predator/Alien hybrid, which, I am not afraid to say, is scary as sh*t.

The cast is almost completely no-name, except for Robert Joy, whom most of you pikers probably won't recognize anyway. Which is fine, because you won't and aren't supposed to care a whit about the characters. They are cannon fodder, and that is just fine. The movie is really about the Predator fighting the Aliens. Don't let anyone tell you different. As long as you keep that in mind, you'll have a fine time out at the theater.

It is also important to note that the movie is a hard-R. No PG-13 nonsense here. They drop F-bombs, and the violence is gratuitous and brutal. As it should be. It is almost enough to erase the shame of the first crappy entry in this sub-franchise.

Oh, no. I liked it. It wasn't a good movie, but it delivered the trailer-trash entertainment. Violence, but then there was also some violence in case you don't like violence :)

Gotta appreciate a film that unapologetically goes for the R rating in a PG-13 world.
