Ready, Aim, Fire!

Every year we get granted with hundreds of action movies, each trying to be the next accomplishment then the other. Shooter, starring Mark Whalberg, is not like that. Actually, from watching the movie and paying close attention to the storyline, I feel its close to The Bourne Identity in many ways. Filling the screen in violence, the film includes major action scenes which were directed with perfection. Besides that, we get a murder mystery and a suspense filled 2 hours. Good acting, good directing and major suspense moments equal up to a great movie.

Bob Lee Swagger (Mark Whalberg) is an ex marine sniper. After a mission gone bad, in which killed his spotter, he retires from the Marines and lives a life of silence. Usually, spending his days hunting with his dog, he really doesnt bother with many people of the small town. One day a black SUV rolls up in his driveway, stepping out is Colonel Isaac ackson (Danny Glover). He talks to Bob, telling him that they want Bob to help plan the assasination of the President of the USA. But when something goes wrong and Bob is framed, he must fight for his freedom with violence.

Mark Whalberg truly did an amazing job in Martin Scorsese's latest film, The Departed. He was truly right for this role, Bob is a peaceful man. He doesnt bother with anyone and hes really to himself. Mark grabs the character and puts on his skin, really making me feel like Im watching the Bob I read about in the novel. Micheal Pena plays as Nick Memphis. Micheal did a seriously good job in World Trade Center, and nailed this one to. His character is very talkative and likes to speak out, giving Micheal a nice role to fit into.

The action scenes featured in Shooter and planned out nicely. Explosions rock the screen while blood splatters it. Actually, this is a very violent movie. There are plenty of nice blood sprays and splatters all over the place. Very graphic. The thing which boosted donw my rating was the lack of good character development. In the novel, we learn so much about Bob, not just from detail, but from things he does throughout the book. The movie is also very slow in some spots, really making me wanting to shut it off, I never did though.

Bottom Line: See It

This film was really entertaining, however I found it a little ridiculous with how fake some of the things got.

I actually read a whole thread on this film with people listing things that were wrong with it and it got to be over several pages long.
