There's only one Italian Job
So why is the original better than the remake well that's simple....Benny Hill (the original comic genius RIP), Michael Caine and the original Mini Cooper before it was turned into a pretentious yuppie mobile by BMW.... those bastards.
Michael Caine plays Charlie a big time crook who's just got outta jail and is looking for a big job, and stealing $4 mil in gold from Italy sounds pretty tempting. He gets funding for his little excursion from Mr. Bridger one of the big crime boss types. taking 3 mini coopers and his gang over to Italy he devises a cunning plan to steal the gold right from under their noses.
This movie makes me all giddy to watch, Michael Caine delivers some corking lines like no one else ever could.....if you have only seen the one with Ed Norton in it scold yourself for your ignorance, and then go out an rent the original .....Go on, do it, Do it now.
I'll end with my favorite line "You where only meant to blow the bloody doors off" (to be said in a deep c*ckney accent)
