Movie Review by Zara
March 25th, 2007

Not Quite What I was expecting

After reading Tim's early review and not really being all that amped up to go to a movie that I was going to get forced to go to (gotta love having little kids), I ended being surprised. My sisters were big fans of the cartoon and subsequent live-action movies back in the day so I was thinking that this would be at the very least a little cartoony. To my surprise it's more seriously and a touch darker than the older versions were.

I'm not a comic book reader myself but I've heard that the original books were REALLY dark, with the turtles cutting off heads and being brutes. While this movie doesn't go to that length, it does embrace that things are not as hunky-dory as had been shown in the past.

I especially liked the opening scenes where they were explaining the backstory and the color of the animation was a sepia-type tone. It's nice to see when animation gets more creative than just turning the flashbacks into black and white.

It was either this of THE LAST MIMZY, a movie that from the trailers looked more interesting to me. I must say, not I'm worried about the quality of that film since I ended up liking this one more than I thought I would.
