Live Free or Die Hard / Die Hard 4 (2007)

Man there's tough and there's stupid.
Let me just start out by saying that there is far too much high tech in this movie. I like the idea, but when I think of the Die Hard franchise I think of low tech hi-jacking. The first movie has a group of terrorists holding a building full of people hostage with very minimal use of computers. The second movie was the same concept but with an airport and the same lack of computers. The third installment was taking elementary schools all over New York hostage and even less use of computers. Do you see a pattern here? My point is that if this were another movie I would be cool with the whole "hacking/fire sale" concept, but it just doesn't feel quite right as a Die Hard movie. This is just my opinion though so it is subject to inaccuracy and ignorance.
FBI facility's computer system was hacked and anybody who could commit the act was slowly being killed one by one. Detective John McClane was assigned to escort a hacker named Matthew Farrell to FBI custody in order to find out who was behind the hacking. Shortly after the public transportation system and the stock market system were both hacked as well. McClane and Farrell must work together to stop the terrorist group responsible for the hacks before everything gets turned upside down and chaos ensues.
Once again Bruce Willis (PLANET TERROR) delivers a strong performance as John McClane, but is also written as pretty much the only good guy with common sense. It frustrates me to no end when they write every other law enforcer out to be a moron in comparison with him. Justin Long (DODGEBALL) as Matt Farrell was basically the Samuel Jackson character for Die Hard with a Vengeance in his reactions to everything. Just the normal guy who isn't used to intense action like McClane is. Maggie Q (BALLS OF FURY) as Mai Lihn was quite simply put unbelievable. Timothy Olyphant (HITMAN) as Thomas Gabriel was good, but I couldn't get over the constant teeth gritting he did for the majority of the movie. I can just tell Kevin Smith (TMNT) as Warlock / Freddie ask to be called "Cyber Jedi". He was good and still surprises me that he can act. I have seen his panels at Comicon and I know he has the chops to do stand up also.
I said it before, and I will say it again, this is a good movie but it doesn't feel right to call it a Die Hard movie.
