Damn hamster!

Some great quotes in this film....a few of my favorite Live Free or Die Hard quotes would be :

The Warlock: Oh... so you're a fan of the Fett?
John McClane: [standing next to a stand-up cardboard cut-out of Boba Fett] No, I was always a fan of Star Wars...

Matt Farrell: You just killed a helicopter with a car!
John McClane: I was out of bullets.

Die Hard is probably one of the most perfect action films EVER made. They get the trilogy going great as part 2 and 3 although not quite as great as the original, were still damn good action movies. When I found out this film was being made I was really excited as I'm not one of those people that thinks making bad sequels takes away from the originals. If a sequel sucks then it sucks but that doesn't make the original suck.

This movie was pretty decent but I was expecting more. It had plenty of action but really lacked with characters. Between Hans Gruber (Alan Rickman), Col. Stuart (William Sadler) and Zeus Carver (Samuel L. Jackson) each Die Hard film has always had another character in it that was just as important and memorable as Willis.

I really like Timothy Olyphant, I loved him in Deadwood and in The Girl Next Door.....but I thought he really dropped the ball in this film. He just did not play the role right.....I would much rather seen him play the role of Kelly from The Girl Next Door as sadly enough he was more terrifying in that film as a porn stars ex-boyfriend rather then the film that he was suppose to be a terrorist capable of crashing the United States.

I like Justin Long but he is always going to be the kid from Dodgeball. Mary Elizabeth Winstead is alright but nothing to bank on.

The action scenes in the Die Hard films have always been a little over the top but I felt as though they went too far with them this time. They reached and passed the point of being to unbelievable for a human character....some of the stuff that happened were things that mutants would have a hard time surviving and it was not phasing humans, such as when Bruce Willis runs over Maggie Q with an SUV at about 40 miles an hour and it doesn't hurt her at all.

I'm big on rated R trilogy's NOT being turned to PG-13 films.....I was very annoyed with that when AVP came out but I saw the unrated version of this which seemed like an R rated movie so I cant really express an opinion on that.

I will say that I almost would have liked this film more then I did. There is a scene when McClane is talking to Thomas Gabriel through a CB and McClane has one of his thugs at gunpoint. You hear a gunshot and think that McClane just assassinated his goon to show Gabriel how serious he is and I thought that we were about to see John get real serious and even maybe see a darkside of him. I was really disappointed to find out that they were going to keep him bound to being a cop first and an action hero second.

Being a Die Hard film I have high expectations for it, higher then a normal action film. It would have been a better film if Bruce's name was not John McClane in the film and this was not a series in the Die Hard movies....then I would have probably gave it a 4 star rating......if that makes any sense.

The unrated version brings back all the glorious violence and language of the original!

hmmmm I will have to check that out. The thing that makes me not care about Unrated films now is that they are always advertised as "unrated...too shocking to be shown in theatres" or some other bullsh*t and then you watch it and cant tell whats been added back in....nothing shocking about it.
