Life finally feels good for Peter Parker. He has managed to balance life as both Spider-Man and as Mary Jane's boyfriend. He is even planning on proposing to MJ. But life isn't always going to be easy for the webbed hero. Harry Osborn still hasn't forgiven Peter for the death of his father. He has developed the perfect technology and crowns himself the 'New Goblin'. Harry isn't the only problem. It is revealed that an escaped convict, Flint Marko is the real killer of Peter's uncle. After an accident, he is now the invincible 'Sandman', who has teamed up with Venom to target the superhero, who is struggling to handle his life.
Spider-Man 3 is certainly not the greatest film of the franchise. Sam Raimi stays in the directors chair for this prequel to Spider-Man. While Spider-Man 3 may crave the action hunger for action junkies like me, it lacks what made Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2 so great. Spider-Man 3 lacks in a good script and great character development, but makes up with amazing action scenes and just plain fun.
I thought that after the events of the second movie, Tobey Maguire would have to push himself to the extreme for this movie. With Spider-Man 3, they couldve did some great character events and really couldve pushed the emotional barrier of the franchise. Of course, they took a new direction and automatically jumped on more villians and more action. But thats really all the film does newly. Tobey Maguie still puts on a good performance, but the movies terribly lacking script didnt help bring out all of Tobey's skill. Instead, the script had him dancing and impressing girls with a finger snapping pimp walk. It couldve been more fun for Tobey as an actor, but made me feel strange watching the movie. Thomas Haden Church plays as Flint Marko, or better known as the Sandman. We get some small character stuff with him as we learn the problem with his daughter and his ex wife which now hates his guts. I dont want to spoil it, but we learn a lot of stuff which deals with Flint and the first Spider-Man movie. Finally, Topher Grace plays as the smart ass Eddie Brock. But, Topher gets the pleasure to weild the Venom mask. While Venom is not as muscular or scary as he was in the comics, he looks great in here.
Spider-Man 3 is huge when it comes to the mix of all the villians and the action scenes. The one scene where Peter is chased by The New Goblin, it really brings out Sam Raimi's action directing and his love for the one take shot. Which really makes a lot of the action scenes look good. It is sad for me to say that Spider-Man 2, actually had better effects. Or if you want me to be honest, more real effects. In here they look cartoony and a little faker then they did in previous movies. So there is some good detail with Sandman and Venom looks really good, but they just dont live up to the second movie.
Spider Man 3 is a fun movie, but lacks a lot.
