Gladiator + Troy + Sin City = 300
300 starts off showing how a young boy is trained to become a fierce soldier for Sparta. Dying is battle is the biggest honor you can receive. Being tested and even tortured is a normal way of training for Sparta's children. As the boy grows older he becomes the King. Now in present time, a Persian messenger is sent to visit King Leonidas which is the King of Sparta. The messenger wants to convince him to bow to an almighty "King of Kings" and King Leonidas refuses and starts a huge war between Sparta and 1,000,000 enemies.
The Spartan council will not agree to march Sparta into war so to get around the "Law" the King goes into battle himself taking along 300 bodyguards which happen to be the finest soldiers that Sparta has to offer. They go and fight to the death to defend their honor and freedom.
Outnumbered, The King devises a strategic battle plan to lure the opposing enemy into a certain area which they can take them out flank by flank.
This movie was mind blowing. Automatically you can tell Frank Miller had his hand in this. Just like in Sin City the film 300 plays out with sort of a comic book vibe. It mixes a remarkable sound mix.....so great and defiant that sounds of shields and spears themselves rattled the theater. The film is very gory but in an animated way which shows slow motion Matrix style scenes with every fine detail of battle portrayed in a brilliant way.
Gerald Butler plays King Leonidas and should probably receive the Oscar for best new comer.....even though he has been around for a while......Mark my words he is going to be a big star.
If you like battle scenes, blood, sex, and history mixed with wonderful direction, acting, sound mixing and a modern vibe of music and cinematography then 300 will be one of your new favorites. I cannot say enough good things about it. I watched the entire movie being right around 120 minutes plus previews and it seemed to go by quickly. There was no drag and it kept me at the edge of my seat.

| I was the only one in the audience to catch the dig that he throws at Ephialtes (the hunchback) when he tells him that he hopes he leads an eternal life. Deepest cut EVER. Loved that part. |
