Movie Review by Zara

Eh...

I really loved HUSTLE & FLOW, a movie that was written and directed by the same man who made this movie. While there are similar qualities between both of these films, the first is a much superior tale to watch.

My problem with BLACK SNAKE MOAN is the fact that I don't give a sh*t about any of these people. I could care less about the tramp even after I find out that she was abused at the hand of her mother's boyfriend even under the mother's knowledge. I certainly couldn't care about the anxiety-ridden boyfriend of hers who thinks that going off to the Army is going to solve their problems.

And I don't care about Samuel L Jackson, someone who is normally very good under any circumstances. It's not that he's bad here. His acting is just fine. It's that his character, although ultimately portrayed as being this heroic figure, is really just your garden variety male-chauvinist Southern a**hole. Some might find his mentality charming, I find it misogynistic.

So, what do you do when you have a movie which has a good script, an interesting concept, brilliant cinematography, tight and mindful direction and yet you don't give a f*ck about any of the people in the movie?

You have an hour and 45 minutes lost and a head that is sore from scratching.
