A Night To Dismember is a low budget sleaze filled slasher movie by Doris Wishman (Deadly Weapons, Let Me Die A Woman). Shot in 1979 the films release was delayed due to footage being damaged and Wishman was forced to shoot much of the film again. Due to this there are parts of the movie that are inconsistent or reveal certain things, but on the budget she was working with, what can you expect?

Within the first 5 minutes 3 people are brutally murdered. Then suddenly time passes and the main character Vicki Kent has returned from a mental asylum after being institutionalized for the murders. She is not welcomed warmly by her brother and sister who plot against her to make her crazy. The film isn't dialogue driven and a narrator fills in the gaps. I can't say much more without giving the story away but I will say the film is full of deceit, lies, sex, blood and gore trippy or bad effects and lots more blood.

The film has lots of great horror elements and shots in it, but due to the low budget quality they never really come off as being scary. The gore is fun and vile, although blatantly fake looking, I think it makes you squirm a bit more due to the ludicrousness of it. (Look out for the plastic decapitated head that is burning in the fire and the heart that gets pulled out of a mans chest)

The commentary track has to be the most hilarious I have ever heard, Wishman is unruly, hurling abuse at her cameraman Chuck, she states that A Night To Dismember was made with love, care and Wishman blood. For a film released in the 80's you would swear this is a film right out of the 60's. I would recommend this film to anyone who loves bad violent slashers but if you prefer movies with more tension and scares, give this one a miss.
