Movie Review by The Cinema Goddess
February 18th, 2007

The film was very entertaining, albeit a little long and did drag in places. I love Chris Cooper, so by him being in the film, it elevated my interest in seeing it. If you aren't one of those people who follow current events, this film will enlighten you as to problems with our government. Ryan Philippe is not one of my favorite actors, and at times he seemed kind of wooden in the role. On the other hand, in some of his scenes this seemed like he was playing it exactly as the character felt.
I would have liked to seen more of Laura Linney, one of best actors of her generation (my opinion) and also more scenes focused on Chris Cooper's character and his home life, upbringing. I think it may have helped the viewer get a better understanding as to the motivation behind his actions in the film. I followed the story in the news when it was current, but I don't know if the real Robert Hanssen ever came clean as to the full meaning behind his actions during his years with the FBI. There were times I felt the tension during the film, so I would recommend it.
