Movie Review by Jessica Film Junkie
March 7th, 2007

Garland and Astaire...Magic!

Originally designed as a vehicle for Judy Garland and Gene Kelly, but when Kelly broke his leg during rehearsal, he was swiftly replaced by Fred Astaire. And thank goodness, this teaming is one for the ages.
Astaire plays a famous dancer who has lost his partner (the brilliant Ann Miller) and must find a replacement, when he finds Garland in a chorus line. He trains her hard and tries to make her a replica of Miller's style, before she demonstrates her unique talent. Garland is comic magic here, and Astaire plays off her nicely.
Peter Lawford (yes from the Rat Pack) plays Miller's lover who falls for Garland, but is rebuffed when she falls for Astaire (got that?). He is actually very good and the muliple love stories fit well with this very good movie.
Great cast, great plot, great dancing and great title song!
