Epic Movie (2007)

Movie Review by Chris July 21st, 2008

The story centers on four not-so-young orphans: one raised by a curator at the Louvre (where an albino assassin lurks), another a refugee from Mexican "libre" wrestling, the third a recent victim of snakes on her plane, and the fourth a "normal" resident of a mutant "X"-community. The hapless quartet visits a chocolate factory, where they stumble into an enchanted wardrobe that transports them to the land of Gnarnia (with a "G"). There they meet a flamboyant pirate captain and earnest students of wizardry - and join forces with, among others, a wise-but-horny lion to defeat the evil White b*tch of Gnarnia.
I have no idea how anybody in their right mind could enjoy Epic Movie, directed by Jason Friedberg and Adam Seltzer. Recently we have gotten three sequels to the first Scary Movie, we have had Date Movie and Meet The Spartans, none of them being considered good at all. If I have to give my opinion, I would have to say that there parodies being released by both Jason and Adam have to stop because it is actually ruining the names that films like Naked Gun and Airplane have given to the parody genre. I believe that with every recent parody film made, I have lost hope for the future of the comedy genre in whole. One man is saving this though and his name is Judd Apatow, but his movies are actually funny.
Epic Movie goes ahead and parodies such films as Pirates of The Carribean, Chronicles of Narnia, Lord of The Rings, Charlie and The Chocolate Factory and many many more. The film opens with the parody of the oh so horrible Davinci Code, I actually think this small parody is better the the whole Davinci Code film, which isnt saying to much. Right from the start we see that the film barely attempts at trying to make its audience laugh. Mostly every gag joke or celebrity slap is the same thing we have seen in every other parody movie released. Though a few chuckles came out during the movie, I never seemed to have been enjoyed one little bit through the enitre drawn out hour and a half.
When we get to see them make fun of Narnia, or Gnarnia, the movie begins to get horribly unfunny. We get to see the White b*tch, a horribly unfunny name, and everything sinks down to the "I cant even smile" level. When we see the parody of Harry Potter, I finally gave up on the entire movie in whole and just sat there and stared at the middle of the screen for the remaining time of the film.
Epic Movie could be one of the worst and most unfunny movie ever made. Its not even a stab at funny and just a large waste of time.
