A Good Movie
I had rented Alpha Dog under very little to know about the movie. All I really knew was that it dealt with a kidnapping and Justin Timberlake starred in it. After I sat down to watch it, I was deeply entertained by the movie. Starting off the movie with Bruce Willis, I thought it was kind of corny, then it got into the real plot and everything. All the acting is very well done and the characters are all different in a unique way. The movie holds it self with a great plot, really, I got into it quickly. It also deals with real life troubles, drugs, violence and family.
Alpha Dog follows Johnny Truelove, sort of reminding me of a modern day Godfather. He deals with drugs, money and everything that goes down in his town. I enjoyed this character, who was nicely portrayed by Emile Hirsch (Lords of Dogtown). Mostly, through the movie he becomes to understand himself because of the events that unflod through the movie. Bruce Willis (Live Free or Die Hard) plays as Sonny Truelove. He doesnt have a role as big as it could have been, but for what he is I tip my hat to him. Justin Timberlake (Black Snake Moan) plays as Frankie. Frankie is my favorite character of the movie, but that wouldnt be without the help of the good acting skills of Justin. His character is goofy, but really a deeply thought guy.
From the opening of the movie, the audience goes through so much in the two hours of the movie. At first, we just kind of get introduces to our characters and everything. When the plot really started to boil down then I was into it. The film supports a great script to. Written by Nick Cassavettes who also happens to be the director. There is a lot of language though, but it actually improves some scenes in a funny way.
The film is more of a drama than anything. The end gave us a little action, but overall the film deals with so much more then just whats on the screen. Its about friends, drugs and violence in the modern day world. The end scene is really sad and twisted, one of the best scenes in the film.
Bottom Line: Deeply Reccomended.
