Cool, Tim already added it for some reason
I was looking through films that the kids from "Saved By the Bell" had been in and stumbled upon this little number, the only non-TV related item featuring Dustin Diamond (Screech). The funniest thing is that for a movie that didn't have anything to do with TV, this is completely about TV.
Filled with actors who were popular in television shows from the 70's, 80's and 90's, making a sh*tload of references to shows that I used to watch back when I was regular drone in front of the boob tube, this film is at times brilliant and laugh-out-loud funny and at other times just cringe inducing.
However, it's one of the few movies that seems willing to take a chance. I don't think that any of the themes are cutting edges, this is in many ways a very low budget parody in the vein of SCARY MOVIE. But it took some (previously) really good people and went for some obscure jokes in addition to the more obvious ones.
For example, getting Richard Klein (Larry, the next door neighbor on "Three's Company") to play the news reporter and spout of lines like "And all of us wish Joyce DeWitt a speedy recovery." I had to giggle at that.
The movie also uses some of the better sketch performers of recent years including Debra Wilson and Phil Lamarr from "Mad TV" as well as Colin Mochrie and Brad Sherwood from "Whose Line is it Anyway?" Colin in particular is rather good.
This is a low budget movie that knew it was low budget. The actors are quite clearly getting paid nothing or next to nothing. And yet none of them are in it for the recognition, the face time or the peanut paycheck. They're all just having fun.
And Paul? You'd be proud of me. I watched all of the extras, of which there are a good number of cool ones to be found on the disc.
