Night at the Museum

This time around it's "Night at the Museum" starring Ben Stiller. The movie centers around Larry Daley, a poor schmuck with big dreams, but rarely follows through with them. To prove to his ex-wife that he can still be a responsible father, he takes a job as the night security guard at a museum. But, there's more to the job than he bargins for when everything in the museum comes alive at night.

I have to admit, Ben Stiller is *very* hit and miss for me. Sometimes I like him ("Meet the Parents") sometimes I don't ("Starsky and Hutch") and sometimes, I really don't ("Zoolander"). I have to say, I wish him and Owen Wilson would stop making movies together. I get it, they're great friends. The problem is, I don't think they have good chemistry together and I think that their comedic timing is worse when they're sharing the screen. Of course that's just me. I've met a number of people who find their onscreen antics wild and funny.

I do have some warnings, dear readers about this movie. The movie has a weak script, not a well constructed story, some lame characters and the plot twists kind of suck.

All of that I could forgive, because it looks like this movie wanted children for its target audience. But, what did bother me was: the jokes were horrible and/or non-exsistant. They had so much potential to work with and they blew it.

Then again, I'm not an eight year old anymore. And like I said, I do have a feeling that's who this was mostly intended for. And even trying to look at it through "kid eyes", I still had a tough time. But, that's just me.

So, who do I think will like this movie? Stiller fans, of course. But also, I think anyone who liked the movies "Jumanji" and "Indian in the Cupboard" might get a kick out of this one. This might be a good one to rent for the whole family and curl up with everyone for a movie night.
