The Good Shepherd

And it's Tuesday again and I'm here with a review of "The Good Shepard" starring Matt Damon, Angelina Jolie, William Hurt and Robert De Niro (who also directed). The story is about Edward, a member of the infamous Skull and Bones society in Yale who is recruited into OSS during WWII and eventually into the CIA.

The movie itself is a story of deception, betrayal, secrets and loyalty. But the movie itself also seems to be kind of like CIA work: at times tidious, boring and seems to be going nowhere, until finally, there's a break through. And, let that be a warning to you, dear readers, that there are some very slow points in this movie.

That being said, the acting was brilliant. Matt Damon delivers a methodical performance not unlike what he did in "The Talented Mr. Ripley" (only with a lot less dialogue). He's cold and calculating to the people around him, including his own wife and son.

But, who's going to like this movie? Difficult to say, although if you're a fan of Damon, I'd say watch this one. The problem is that the most famous actors in this one aren't in it very long. De Niro himself has maybe three or four scenes, but I would like to see him get behind the camera more. If you have any interest in American intelligence (OSS or CIA) see this movie. On the other hand, if you're looking for this movie to glare at the CIA for dirty-tricks, black-ops, corruption and cover-ups, you're going to be disappointed.
