Great Special Effects, Horrible Writing/Story

Eragon Movie Review

Director: Stefen Fangmeier

Actors: Edward Speleers, Jeremy Irons, and Sienna Guillory

Rated PG: For Fantasy Violence, Intense Battle Sequences and Some Frightening Images

Eragon (Edward Speleers) is a young farm boy who finds a blue stone in the mountains. The stone turns out to be a dragon egg, and Eragon soon bonds with the dragon and discovers that he's one of the last Dragon Riders. Later, Eragon's family is killed by the marauding Ra'zac, and he must learn to fight before a war begins.

Eragon was one of the movies I was scared to see with all the negative reviews it got and everyone saying if you read the book you would hate the movie and they were right but not 100% right. Eragon had ok Acting, ok Directing, Great Special Effects, and Bad Writing. The best aspect in Eragon was the Special Effects and, I'm so sick of movies like that where the whole movie stinks instead of the Effects. Anyway the Special Effects in the movie were the only real times I felt engaged into the film as a whole, other than that the movie seemed like a play by play movie where they make up the story as they go.

The Acting was the films second best aspect but the only real good actors/actresses in the film were Joss Stone, even though she was in the film for like 2 minutes she was awesome. Rachel Weisz was very good as the voice of Saphira, and Edward Speleers as Eragon was an ok actor in one of his first films, but he could have been better.

The Directing and Writing in the film were the worst aspects of the film; the story for the film was boring, corny, lame, and just plain embarrassing for the writer of the hit book that inspired Eragon. The Directing was a bit better than the writing with how the camera was set up and the cinematography, those were pretty good but not good enough to save the film from its horrible story. Like I said before the action and acting were the only good aspects of the entire film, and that's the only reason I gave it 1 in a half stars.

Overall I Was Disappointed In the Film but I Wouldn't Call It the Worse Adaptation of a Book That Goes To Harry Potter 1 & 2

I'm with you. I was into the effects but those alone couldn't make up for the rest of it. i watched Eragon again last night, thinking that maybe the second time i watched it, it wouldn't be so bad. I was wrong. This time i caught all the corny lines the characters say to try and make things more dramatic but fail horribly. I cringed, then laughed at them.

great review, i completely agree. So... waste of time or are you glad you saw it?
