Movie Review by Javi
March 7th, 2007

That's "dragon" with an E, got it?

Much like it's title (which admittedly comes from the book), this movie tries to be really clever but we can all see through it's tricks. I understand the book series is great but it seems none of that greatness was transferred to the big screen adaptation. It's comes off as nothing but a sad imitation of excellent movies in recent history and just doesn't get off the ground.

I haven't read the book. It's a fantasy book obviously and there are lots and lots of fantasy books and movies with dragons out there. True originality is going to be hard, I understand, but if the book is anything like the movie it seems like jigsaw puzzle of elements that were put together much better in other movies/books. Basically it seems this is what they did for this story: Take one part Chosen Hero, throw in Wise Sage, add Tyrannous King and evil Right-Hand Magician, a very capable lady, but still in some distress, a merry band of rebels and an army of bad guys plus one huge Thermopylae-ish battle and you have...

...Lord of the Rings, no wait,

...Star Wars, no wait,

...Van Helsing? hahaha,

...Eragon...right.

Seriously, this movie hurt me sometimes. I cringed at some of the things I saw on the screen. It was not a pretty sight. It really felt like they just tried to copy the elements that had made the aforementioned movies excellent and enjoyable. They failed miserably of course. No character was developed enough for me to care about. Their dialogue was atrocious. Sooooo many bad puns.

I don't really don't know what to tell you. Except, unless you're and arms are broken and you can't reach the remote when this movie comes on T.V. one night, don't watch it.

Entertainment Value - 0 Stars: I actually got up and made myself a sandwich, then made my little sister a sandwich, came back and didn't miss anything.

Storytelling - 0 Star: I know there is no originality left, and it's even harder in genre films like this one, but come on...I've seen this movie done better before.

Characters and Dialogue - 0 Stars: I wanted to poke EVERYONE with sharp, pointy objects.

Production - 1/2 Star: Effects were good...gotta give it up to IL&M

Directing and Editing - 0 Stars: The whole thing felt forced. It just didn't flow.
